Seniors, wow what an exciting year this is for you! College visits, Prom, planning graduation, finals and of course Senior Portraits. Senior Portraits are sort of your last hurrah, a celebration of your up and coming independence, new adventures on the horizon, a reward for all your hard work for the past 17-18 years.
When scheduling your senior portraits one thing you will need to decide is what to wear for your senior portraits. It’s important to remember this is about YOU! So wear clothes you feel great in and represent who you are. But one thing to keep in mind is, your parent’s are going to be hanging your senior year portrait on the wall for the next several decades, so you are going to want to look your best! Below you will find a few suggestions on what to consider when picking out clothing for your senior photos.
First choose a photographer that you are going to love to work with. I would love to be that photographer! As a full time, professional photographer, I have been photographing seniors for over 15 years. Here are examples of my photography style. Need ideas on locations! Whether it be in Lee's Summit or down town Kansas City, I have several in mind but I would love to hear your ideas.
Now let's talk about those outfits! I suggest you bring 3-5 outfits. The first option would be something dressy. Perhaps a suit and tie, or just a tie, a pretty dress with an elaborate train, or a nice spring dress you could wear to church. You want this outfit to take your normal everyday style up a notch while still holding true to your true you.
Second, you should bring something casual. An outfit you feel comfortable in, something you'd wear every day. This will really show off your true self. Think jeans, shorts, a tank top or your favorite tee. Keep in mind you will want to express your style but keep the mood light and fun! And ladies keep in mind we will be doing a variety of poses so don't choose all skirts or dresses for your outfits, especially ones that are too short where you cannot sit. I want you to look your best while still being comfortable.
For your third outfit, I recommend you bring your very favorite outfit to your senior portrait session or mix it up, add a pop of color, buy something new and wear something trendy! Have some fun with this one! If you are stuck for ideas, research what other teens are wearing.
And most of all don't forget to let your interests and personality SHINE! Bring accessories that are important to you, show who you are and represent what your high school years meant to you. Jewelry, hats and scarves are a great place to start but don’t forget the big stuff either!
