When my cousin's daughter, Sierra, asked me to photograph their first child I was thrilled. We are lucky in our family that 95% of us live in the Kansas City area, so we get to see one another here and there.  I got to photograph Sierra and her husband, Zach's, engagement portraits a couple years ago.  We used a farm in Greenwood, Missouri and they turned out fabulous!  I was excited to be able to work with them again, remembering that their engagement session was filled with fun and the bonus that they are both gorgeous made the anticipation of getting to photograph their new family even greater!!! 

I reminded Sierra that newborn photos are best done while baby is 5-10 days old and asked her to let me know if she got scheduled to induce or once baby arrived.  A couple Saturdays ago I got the Facebook Message ... he was HERE!! I could not wait to meet the little guy. He is the first of his generation on our side of the family. Sierra and Zach opted to have the photo shoot in their home instead of in mine and let me know they were looking for earth tones in their session. I love doing home shoots because it gives the session so much more personality and often times we can utilize the baby's nursery! So I loaded up my props; blankets, outfits, a heater, hats, etc. . . . and my gear; soft box, strobe, transmitter and receiver, camera, lens, batteries, etc and set off! Now Sierra is super crafty and had some of her own props she wanted to use. That always makes it fun and adds each family's uniqueness to the shoot, I love it when new Moms do this.  Some of my favorite shots have been of babies whose parents were Star Wars fans, Harry Potter fans and sports fans and had asked to use certain props they had on hand. (But of course I have plenty of props if they prefer I do all the prepping.)  Locke was a perfect little angel the whole time we got so many different images! He let us pose him, change him and cuddle him; it was a dream session!
